CHEPU RIVER WETLANDS

Overwhelming scenery of dead trees at Chepu River Wetlands, described by some visitors as the Natural Sculptures Garden surrounded by over 100 different species of birds and a great diversity of flora and fauna, some endemic.    

 

HOW CHEPU WETLANDS STARTED

Chepu Valley was impacted in 1960 by the strongest earthquake ever registered which lowered the ground app. 2 meters and followed by a tsunami destroying thousand of trees, transforming part of the valley in Wetlands.   Dead Tree Valley can be visited by kayak, motor boat or from Mirador de Chepu Terrace.

FLORA AT THE DEAD TREE VALLEY

It is amazing to see how nature reborn after the total devastation.   Beautiful flora can be found among the dead trees, as well as bird nests.



DEAD TREE VALLEY AREA

Dead Tree Valley is a triangle formed by River Puntra to the North, River Grande to the South and Coluco Lagoon to the West.   

Mirador de Chepu, starting point for kayak and boat tours, is located facing the delta of rivers Puntra and Grande at: 42 02'53.82"S 73 58'08.08"W, if you look at it on Google Earth
